Pocket money

Money some children are given regularly by a grown-up.

Three ways to explain it

Hatchlings · Ages 5–6

Money that some grown-ups give to children now and then, to spend or save as they like. Not every family does this.

Fledglings · Ages 7–8

A regular amount some children get, weekly or monthly, to practise making their own money decisions. Plenty of families do it differently, or not at all, and that’s completely normal.

High Flyers · Ages 9–10

A small regular income given to a child, usually so they can practise choosing, saving and going without. There’s no standard amount and no correct way to do it — it depends entirely on what a family can manage.
